There are plenty of high-achieving women practicing law . . . and it’s just not working for them. They think they may want out, but they’re afraid to talk to anyone about it, and they feel like they might be the only ones.
I know, because I’ve been there.
Top law school? Check.
Coveted biglaw job? Check.
Glowing reviews? Check.
And yet . . . when I realized I might want out, I didn’t know where to turn.
The Former Lawyer Collaborative is the confidential support community that I wish existed when I was still practicing as a lawyer and trying to figure out my next steps.
It’s a safe and confidential space for women who started their careers in Biglaw and Midlaw and who are interested in exploring other career options.
What is the structure of the program? Is there a weekly curriculum, and what is the time commitment?
Let’s be real—a lawyer in your position probably doesn’t have as much control over your time and schedule as you would like.
I’ve been there, and that’s why the Former Lawyer Collaborative does not have a ton of required curriculum or require a huge time commitment.
Monthly, there’s typically one 1-hour workshop or Q&A and one 1-hour group call. (Workshops and Q&As are recorded so you can catch them even if you can’t be there live.)
You also have daily access to our community and a growing library of workshops and other resources that you can access on your time and your schedule.
In essence, you can dip in and out of the content as needed and as it works for you (and have the underlying community piece for general conversation and venting in a safe place).
This is not a program where you will be hounded to complete things or feel like you are missing out if you disappear into a work maelstrom for weeks at a time. (Because let’s be real, that WILL happen. When I was developing the Collaborative, my thought was—what can I offer these women that would actually be helpful and realistic for the life I know that they lead?) And that’s one of the many reasons that I have made the membership fee so affordable relative to the value provided by membership in this community.
As a member of the Former Lawyer Collaborative, you will get access to:
- A private community forum (not on Facebook!) with members who have agreed to complete confidentiality and have demonstrated a genuine interest in the goals of the community;
- A monthly goal/theme chosen by our members to help you move forward towards your personal goals and career growth with intention and without overwhelm;
- A monthly virtual workshop or Q&A related to the theme for that month;
- A monthly wrap-up mastermind-style group call where we work through all of the questions and issues that came up for you throughout the month;
- A growing library of workshops & Q&As on topics including resumes, LinkedIn profiles, networking, and more that you can access as needed;
- My 5-Day Career Clarity Bootcamp, where you’ll learn exactly what you want from your career, and the next step that YOU need to take; and
- Former Lawyer Fundamentals, a series of self-paced mini-workshops to help you to jump start your pivot in just a few hours.
The Former Lawyer Collaborative is a great fit for women in the law who:
- are motivated & driven;
- don’t love the law and are open to the idea of leaving;
- want to connect with other women who “get it;”
- want to access support and resources as they need them on their own schedule;
- know that figuring out what’s next for them is truly a process; and
- see the value in having a private community where every member has demonstrated interest and committed to strict confidentiality.
The Former Lawyer Collaborative is not a great fit for women in the law who:
- love legal practice (we see you, we love you, we don’t want to be you); or
- want advice about how to make partner and expand their legal practice (that won’t be the focus of this community).
You may be wondering—why do we have an application process?
The application is not intended to be daunting or stressful. It consists of a few short questions and is solely intended to make sure that this community is a fit for you and that you’re committed to the confidentiality needed to develop a thriving community.
How long after I apply will I hear back?
If the community is a good fit based on your answers, you’ll receive an email with the enrollment link within 48 hours of applying.
Membership in the Former Lawyer Collaborative is for a 12-month term. You have two options when you pay your membership fee:
- One-time payment: $497 ($91 yearly savings over paying in monthly installments)
- 12 monthly installments: $49/month for 12 months
Why 12 months?
If you’re interested in joining the Former Lawyer Collaborative, you know that figuring out what’s next for you is a process and not something that happens overnight.
I’m not here to claim that I can sell you a quick fix, and you’re a savvy person who knows that in this area, there are no quick fixes. I care about your success, and all of my experience in this area has shown me that the people who truly transform their lives are the ones who give themselves the time and space to be curious and explore.
By committing to the Former Lawyer Collaborative for a 12-month term, you are giving yourself the time and space to really do the work that will lead you to a better place in your career and in your life.
You also give me and my team, as well as the other women in the community, time to get to know you and really invest in your growth and success. When you join the Former Lawyer Collaborative, you are creating a home and a safe space for yourself to do this work.
Once you have joined, you are welcome to renew your membership for as many terms as you want, and if you pay your membership fee annually, you lock in that price for the duration of your membership and your membership will renew automatically. (If you elect to pay your membership fee in 12 monthly installments, you will have the option to renew in the final month of your term at the rate then available.) You also, of course, always have the option to cancel before your renewal date if you do not want to continue into a new membership term.
Here’s what our members have to say about the Collaborative:
From a former biglaw associate, now in-house, about why the Collaborative is a great fit for women who have a long-term goal of leaving the law:
“Even though I’ve transitioned to in-house from biglaw and think I’m going to like it a lot more and stay for a while, I still want to be a part of this community of women. No matter what happens with my job, or if I’m going to be on the hunt any time soon, I still want to talk to women who know where I’m coming from and my experience. I just feel like we have a very similar perspective, and that’s really important to me, and I’ve found that it’s really hard to find. . . . It’s really helpful to talk to other people who have that biglaw background, and can be with each other and talk, even if it’s not about work, and just about life and balancing and stuff like that.”
From a current biglaw associate about why joining the Collaborative was an easy decision:
“It was a pretty quick decision for me. Part of it was that I know myself, and I’m a little bit of a commitmentphobe, so it was me embracing the challenge to commit for a full year. And I’m also kind of in that boat of people who are thinking about leaving and kind of have that seed planted in the back of my mind, but no plans to do so in the immediate future, so in that sense the annual membership also made sense to me. I kind of figure I’ll soak up the wisdom that is shared over the course of the year, and that might help me formulate a more concrete plan in the future. I’ve really loved the podcast and I’m just excited about the work that you’re doing, so I wanted to be along for the ride, and not only in the short-term.”

Helpful FAQS About The Collaborative
Q1 – Who is this for?
The Collaborative is designed for women in Biglaw and Midlaw, or who started out in Biglaw or Midlaw and have transitioned to another legal job, who want to explore other career options and the possibility of leaving the law. It’s best suited for women in their first 15ish years of practice.
Q2 – Who isn’t a good fit for the Former Lawyer Collaborative?
The Collaborative is structured for women associates who are actively trying to figure out what they want to do next in their career, actively exploring the possibility of leaving the law, or anticipating leaving the law eventually, even if that may be several years down the road. If you’re a lawyer who wants to market your legal services or a former lawyer who has found your new niche and wants to market those services, this is not a great fit. We have a strict “no promotions, selling, or spam” policy.
Q3 – When are the workshops and calls, and are there replays?
Currently, most workshops and calls are held on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
All workshops are recorded and the replays are posted in the member’s area.
Q4 – What happens at the end of my 12-month membership term?
If you elect to pay your membership fee as a one-time annual payment, you will lock in the current rate and your membership will automatically renew at the end of your 12-month term. Of course, you may cancel your renewal at any point before the end of your term if you do not want to continue beyond the first 12-month term.
If you elect to pay your membership fee in monthly installments, your membership will terminate at the end of your 12-month term. In the final month before your term expires, you will have the option to renew your membership at the rate available at that time.
Q5 – Can I join the Collaborative at any time?
Yes! We’re currently admitting members on a rolling basis. Once you apply, you can expect to hear back within 48 business hours.
Q6 – I have other questions that you didn’t answer—what should I do?
